The Turneffe Atoll is the largest and most biological diverse Atoll in the Western Hemisphere and Turneffe Atoll Marine Reserve is the largest marine reserve in Belize. Turneffe is located approximately 20 miles east of Belize City and encompasses an area of approximately 30 miles by 10 miles, while the Marine Reserve encompasses a significantly larger area. The atoll consists of a network of reefs, back-reef flats, creeks and lagoons, mangroves and more than 150 islands.
